Laing O’Rourke and South Korean shipyard Kawasaki Heavy Industries have won a contract to build four storage tanks at the Ichthys LNG project in Australia.
The outfits will deliver two 165,000 cubic metre LNG tanks as part of the engineering, procurement and construction subcontract.
The deal awarded by main EPC contractors JGC, KBR and Chiyoda also involves an 85,000-cubic metre propane tank and a 60,000 butane tank.
The Inpex-led Ichthys project is under construction at Blaydin Point in Darwin, Northern Territory.
The tank deal is the second for Laing O’Rourke on the US$34 billion export project. The UK-based engineer is also building a US$260 million accommodation village.
“Being appointed to these two major contracts underlies the dedicated sector focus Laing O’Rourke has applied to the requirements of the oil and gas market, and our innovative approaches to non-process infrastructure including accommodation villages and other vital works,” said Laing O’Rourke chief executive Steve Hollingshead.
