Ophir Energy has upped its estimate for a gas play at Block 1 offshore Tanzania which is expected to help feed a planned LNG export project.

The Africa-focused player, which is working with the UK’s BG Group, has lifted in-place resource expectations in the Upper Cretaceous Mzia-1 discovery to between 4 trillion cubic feet and 9 Tcf, with a mean average of 6 Tcf after further seismic and petrophysical analysis of the block.
