Kenya is pressing ahead with LNG import plans despite racking up a second gas discovery this week.
The energy ministry said it is looking to invite expressions of interest in a build-own-operate contract for a regasification terminal “in a couple of weeks”.
US independent Apache Energy earlier declared it had made a gas discovery with its deep-water Mbawa-1 wildcat well.
Mbawa represents Kenya’s first offshore discovery and comes hard on the heels of the country’s debut onshore Ngamia-1 oil find made earlier this year by Tullow.
