Sabine Pass developer Cheniere Energy Partners has given Bechtel the all clear to start construction of the first two liquefaction trains for the US export project.

The full notice to the engineering, procurement and construction contractor was issued following a final LNG export order from the Department of Energy. The DoE this week fully approved Cheniere’s application to export up to the equivalent of 803 billion cubic feet per annum of natural gas over a 20-year period to countries that do not hold a free trade agreement with the US.

Previous consent had been conditional on the developer successfully completing an environmental review of the project in the eyes of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, which has since been achieved.
