Papua New Guinea specialist Oil Search is close to choosing an LNG operator to farm in to its acreage in the Gulf of Papua, which it is hoped could support a standalone multi-train export project.

The independent explorer will “shortly be introducing a well-credentialed LNG partner for the drilling phase” across its key licences.

“We’ve received a number of offers and revised offers in recent times to farm in to this high-quality acreage and we expect to be announcing conclusion of that transaction shortly,” said managing director Peter Botten.

Oil Search intends to start drilling in the Gulf of Papua, off PNG’s southern coastline, towards the start of next year.
