Gail (India) is understood to be in advanced discussions to buy LNG exports from a converted Freeport LNG terminal in the United States.

The 20-year deal will see the Indian pipeline player buy 2 million tonnes per annum from the Texas facility once liquefaction trains are built, according to securities analysts.

The talks with Australian financial services group Macquarie, whose marketing and trading arm signed up in late 2010 to help sell Freeport's planned export volumes, could result in Gail's second deal to buy LNG from the US.
