Norway’s Hoegh LNG has teamed up with PTTEP to study a floating liquefaction project off Australia, it is understood.

The Thailand state energy company wants a separate assessment of how best to develop its Cash-Maple gas reserves, sources said.

Hoegh said this week it has hooked up with “a confidential client” to start a project-specific engineering and cost study for an LNG floating production, storage and offloading vessel.

PTTEP is also kicking off a second appraisal well programme in the Timor Sea off north-west Australia.

Maple-2 will spud next week and is expected to take 62 days to drill with results due by August, a spokesman said.
