Woodside Petroleum expects little if any material progress on the stalled Sunrise LNG project in the Timor Sea until after national elections in Timor-Leste, which are scheduled for 7 July.

 

Despite a thaw in the relationship between the government and Woodside under chief executive Peter Coleman, the two sides are still poles apart on the development concept.

 

The Australian company wants to place a floating LNG vessel on the field while Timor-Leste wants onshore processing facilities built along its south coast.

 

Coleman said he is continuing “to build relationships with the Timor-Leste government” but ruled out movement “in the public sphere until after the election”.
