Belgium’s DEME and US-based Great Lakes Dredge and Dock have won a A$1.13 billion (US$1.21 billon) subcontract to carry out dredging work for the Chevron-led Wheatstone LNG project.

Bechtel awarded the deal as part of its role as engineering, procurement and construction contractor for the export plant near Onslow, Western Australia.

The two firms will move more than 26 million cubic metres of materials at the project’s marine facilities as they dredge a 17-kilometre approach channel, a manoeuvring area, berths pockets and a tug harbour.
