BHP Billiton has found hydrocarbons at its North Scarborough gas well in an LNG feed gas hot spot off Australia..
However, the company said it plugged and abandoned the well.
In a report on its petroleum activities, the Anglo-Australian mining giant gave no further details on the find.
The well is in the Scarborough-Thebe area, where BHP has had numerous successes.
The miner and US supermajor ExxonMobil have been mulling development options for some time for the Scarborough gas field in the Carnarvon basin, including floating and land-based LNG projects and providing feed gas to the Pluto LNG project.
