Australia’s export credit agency has downplayed the impact of US liquefaction projects on LNG production efforts at home.

However, that could change if costs in Australia rise high enough, the Export Finance and Insurance Corporation said in its monthly risk report.

“Potential US gas exports do not represent a big threat to Australian LNG projects currently under construction,” the EFIC concluded. “But this could change if there are large cost overruns at the Australian projects, or technological improvements significantly lower the long-run break-even price of US shale gas deposits.”
