Tokyo Electric Power Company said it bought 1.2 million tonnes of spot LNG in the fiscal first quarter.
The tsunami-stricken Japanese utility purchased a total of 5.29 million tonnes during the period, which ended in June. That was a 20.8% increase on the 4.38 million tonnes in the first quarter of the 2010 fiscal year.
Oil purchases increased, while coal buying fell.
