Gross LNG imports in Europe plummeted 27% year-on-year in June, making this the second consecutive mid-year drop.
Fresh figures from US-based consultancy Waterborne Energy show volumes stood at 3.75 million tonnes, down 1.38 million from June 2011.
The leading importers retreated the most with Belgium’s volumes crashing down by 47%, Spain’s by 23% and the UK’s by 38%.
Many terminals in these countries have continued to re-export LNG cargoes, however, which may indicate they are not so affected by the lack of cargoes coming in the door.
