South Korea saw its imports jump by nearly 22% in May, adding to mounting data in the last week of a wide Asian demand surge.

The world’s second largest LNG buyer after Japan imported 2.39 million tonnes during the period, up from 1.96 million a year earlier, according to newswire reports of Korea Customs Service data.

The country paid an average of $631 per tonne compared to $578 in May 2010.
