South Korea saw its imports skyrocket in June despite having to stomach higher prices.

The second largest LNG market pulled in 2.45 million tonnes of the fuel last month, a 15.5% rise on the 2.12 million tonnes in June 2011, according to customs data.

The country paid an average of $16.67 per million British thermal units, a 24% increase on the $13.44 per million Btu paid a year ago.

For the first six months of the year, South Korea’s LNG imports decreased by 1.6% to 18.4 million tonnes.
