Utilities in Alaska and Hawaii are said to be mulling buying LNG from proposed export projects in the lower 48 US states in a bid to benefit from Henry Hub-linked mainland prices.
Would-be Oregon exporter Jordan Cove Energy claims it is in talks to ship mainland LNG to potential import facilities in both states.
The developer, which is seeking permits for a liquefaction facility at Coos Bay, said demand from Alaska and Hawaii “is not alone sufficient to justify the project but (the plant) will be able to serve these needs by providing access to LNG”.
