Thailand’s PTT is said to be in discussions with export giant Qatargas over the supply of 2 million tonnes per annum of LNG.

Details of the arrangement are murky but the producer acknowledged it is in talks with the Thai national energy company, which opened its first LNG import terminal last year.

“Qatargas recognises the potential of the Thai market to absorb significant quantities of LNG and seeks to further strengthen our relationship with PTT,” said a company spokeswoman.

She declined to comment further on the negotiations.

PTT previously signed a memorandum of understanding with Qatargas for 1 million tpa but the deal was never firmed up.

The Qatari company did supply the commissioning cargo to the terminal at Map Ta Phut late last year.
