US President Barack Obama announced a programme to support the development of five corridors for LNG fuelling of heavy-duty trucks.
The initiative is part of the so-called Race to the Top challenge unveiled during a speech at the Daimler Trucks North America manufacturing plant in Mt Holly, North Carolina.
The $1 billion plan also includes the creation of 10 to 15 model communities where the federal government will work to create a critical mass for alternative fuel vehicle use, the White House said.
