Japanese utility Tokyo Electric Power Company bought 12.7% more LNG in December than a year earlier.
Tepco imported 2.08 million tonnes in the month as consumption also rose by 17.4% year-on-year to stand at 2.02 million tonnes.
The outfit was hit hard by last March’s earthquake and tsunami which shut off its Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant, leading to a greater dependence on LNG imports.
