Indian players are betting domestic gas supply shortfalls will be sorted out as their LNG buying continues to focus on the short-term market.
Lower-than-expected production at Reliance Industries’ KG D6 gas field has kept LNG importers active this year to meet the gap but the mood is not expected to last.
“The emphasis on short-term LNG contracts is likely due to the domestic industry’s expectation that in the next few years Reliance will overcome reservoir complications at D6 and a series of new source projects will come online,” PFC Energy analyst Gautam Sudhakar said in a recent report.
