Spreads between spot prices in the US and Asia are enough to make an arbitrage-minded trader salivate.

American prices are at their lowest in more than a decade. Asian levels, meanwhile, are buoyed by expectations that Japanese utilities will continue to struggle to restart nuclear plants.

The figures are likely to bolster the case for the likes of Cheniere Energy, which hopes to receive federal approval next week to turn its Sabine Pass LNG import terminal into an export plant.

Export projects will not be selling at today’s prices, however.
