LNG imports by Japan’s top-10 electrical utilities jumped 24% year-on-year last month to see 5.28 million tonnes purchased.
Meanwhile, LNG consumption blew yet another record in August with 4.81 million tonnes swallowed up.
This marks a 15% increase year-on-year and a 7% lift on July’s figures, according to industry data.
Japanese utilities have been forced to seek more LNG volumes in the wake of the huge earthquake and tsunami which led to a nuclear disaster.
