A government official from Japan is set to meet a US counterpart next week to ask for permission to allow private-sector firms to import LNG from the country from 2015.
Japan’s senior vice minister of economy, trade and industry, Seishu Makino, will seek approval from US Energy Secretary Steven Chu to allow exports to Japan. Initially, power and gas utilities plan to import 2 million to 3 million tonnes per annum, according to Nikkei business daily.
