Japan imported 11% more LNG in September than a year earlier, according to finance ministry data.
The country brought in 6.7 million tonnes last month, with a massive 69% increase in supply from the Middle East and a more modest 9.1% rise in Russian cargoes.
Imports from Asia fell, however, by 16.7% year-on-year to sit at 2.4 million tonnes.
