Japan’s LNG requirements appear set to skyrocket even further next year as a perfect storm of nuclear power plant closures and delayed restarts intensifies.
The International Energy Agency estimates the country could need between 18 billion and 30 billion cubic metres of additional LNG in 2012 on top of the 95 Bcm brought in last year, said natural gas analyst Hideomi Ito.
