Japan’s space agency is looking at using LNG to fuel small rockets.
Takeshi Tsujimoto, LNG propulsion team member at the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA), said recent test firings have provided fruitful data for its future use in launch vehicles.
The agency is also mulling whether its LNG propulsion system, which began testing in 2009 for mid-scale rockets, could serve as an in-space booster or in the later phase of a multi-stage launch vehicle, he said.
