Japan’s big 10 boost LNG buying by 20%

LNG buying by Japanese electric utilities soared last month, according to figures released today.

The Federation of Electric Power Companies reported 3.9 million tonnes in LNG purchased during October, up 20.1% on the same month of last year.

LNG use grew by 31.7% to 3.9 million tonnes.

The group, which is made up of Japan’s top 10 electricity generators, reported even higher increases in fuel oil and crude oil buying.
