Japan’s 10 regional power utilities bought an additional 1 million tonnes of LNG in May compared to the previous year.
The group imported a combined 4.7 million tonnes, up 27% on May 2011, according to Bloomberg.
May was the first month Japan operated with no nuclear capacity after Hokkaido Electric switched off the last remaining unit.
