Japanese power generators are stepping off the accelerator in short-term LNG markets as mild early summer temperatures lessen the urgency to replenish stocks.
Combined with growing spot cargo availability, the cooler Japanese demand could keep Asian spot prices below May’s peaks for the rest of the year, analysts reckon.
National imports grew to 6.88 million tonnes in June, up from 6.1 million in the same month last year, according to Waterborne Energy analyst Charles Martin, who tracks LNG cargo movements in Asia.
While that represents still significant growth at 12.7%,
