Japan's 50 nuclear reactors are all out of commission more than a year after the earthquake and tsunami that led to the Fukushimi Daiichi crisis.
Hokkaido Electric shut the number 3 unit at its Tomari power plant over the weekend. Although the shutdown was for routine maintenance, power generators have struggled to restart reactors in a more nuclear-reticent Japan.
The Tomari unit was the last still operating in the country.
