Indian Commerce and Industry Minister Anand Sharma has asked Qatar for an initial 3 million tonnes per annum in additional LNG.
The government said it wants the volumes immediately, with the added supply to rise to 15 million tpa over three to four years.
Sharma revealed the request during a meeting with Qatari Energy Minister Mohammad Al Sada in Doha.
Sharma’s high-profile call for more Qatari LNG comes as producer RasGas and Doha are already in the midst of negotiations for additional supply to Gail (India) and Petronet LNG.
