Japan’s 10 largest regional power utilities posted another month of surging LNG imports.
The Federation of Electric Power Companies of Japan said LNG buying shot up to 5.09 million tonnes in February, a 26.5% leap on the same month of 2011.
Consumption of the fuel grew by 44.1% to 5 million tonnes, the data show.
But the utilities, which continue to suffer from nuclear plant shutdowns, have boosted fuel oil and crude purchasing more significantly.
