BG Group expects the cost of the Queensland Curtis LNG project to balloon by 19%, mostly as a result of the appreciating Australian dollar.
The company said the originally sanctioned US$15 billion price tag has been revised to US$20.4 billion.
The UK-headquartered gas giant blamed the jump on “local market effects”, regulatory compliance issues and “fairly minor” scope change.
The company is building the QCLNG project on Curtis Island in eastern Australia’s Queensland state.
