Japanese utility Chugoku Electric Power is gearing up to import an extra 240,000 tonnes of LNG this winter as it seeks to make up for lost nuclear production.

The outfit said it expects to bring in four cargoes on top of those already planned for October through March.

Chugoku had planned to buy 795,000 tonnes during the period, according to Reuters.

Japan’s March earthquake and resulting tsunami forced nuclear shutdowns across the country, with most plants still not in operation.
