Charter rates for LNG carriers have climbed relentlessly throughout this year and the pain felt by those seeking tonnage looks set to intensify in 2012.
The year kicked off on a strong note with four vessels controlled by Golar LNG being chartered at daily rates ranging from $65,000 to $70,000.
Among them was the 145,700-cbm Golar Grand (built 2006), which was fixed in mid-December 2010 by Spanish charterer Stream.
