Western Canada is looking set to emerge as a major LNG producer capable of exporting 4.7 billion cubic feet per day of gas.

Having initially appeared to be heading for a niche role with just one or two projects on the radar, major players such as Shell and Petronas are talking of multi-train liquefaction developments.

A new Ziff Energy North American and Canadian supply and demand report, commissioned by Shell, speaks of a gas sector supporting those export volumes through to 2045.

The tally forms part of an overall projected increase in gas demand in western Canada to 15 Bcfd, the consultancy adds.

This extra demand should be met without a problem.
