Anadarko Petroleum chief executive James Hackett has acknowledged the US independent is mulling a partnership at its Mozambique LNG project with a company holding neighbouring exploration acreage.

Italy’s Eni is favourite for a tie-up given it has made nearby discoveries.

Anadarko is eager to play a bigger role in the LNG market, said Hackett.

However, “while we want to capture the majority of the higher-rent opportunities, we also see value in having partners who have market opportunities available to us”, he said during a conference call.
