A US jury has convicted Greece’s Oceanfleet Shipping of crimes related to pollution from a general cargoship.
The US Justice Department says the federal jury in Greenville, North Carolina, also convicted registered shipowner Oceanic Illsabe and Rustico Ignacio and Cassius Samson, two senior engineers on the 29,500-dwt Ocean Hope (built 1996).
The defendants were convicted of all nine counts of violating the Act to Prevent Pollution from Ships, obstruction of justice, witness tampering and conspiracy.
