Attorney Mads Ribe of EY Law commented in TradeWinds (17 February) on a proposal to permit registration of bareboat chartered ships inside and outside of the two Norwegian ship registries. We believe there are no grounds for the concerns he voiced.
When a vessel is bareboat-registered, its ownership and mortgages are registered in the ship registry of one state, which is often called the “primary registry”.
