Madras high court in India has released 35 crew and security guards held for four years on charges of bringing unlicensed weapons into the country.

The Hindustan Times reported that the prosecution failed to prove its accusations against the men from the 197-dwt Seaman Guard Ohio (built 1984).

The decision overturns a 2016 conviction in a Tuticorin court that resulted in a five-year jail term for the 10 crew and 25 security guards.
