The International Maritime Organization says it will consider ways to reduce dangers posed by heavy fuel oil in Arctic shipping at a meeting next year after member states pushed to bring the issue to the group's attention.
The proposal comes at the conclusion today of the Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC) meeting, which also saw the implementation date for ballast water treatment pushed back another two years.
