A US judge has sentenced Angelakos Hellas and a shipowning affiliate to pay $1.5m in fines and community service charges over violations of pollution laws.
District Judge John Coughenour, of the federal court in Seattle, also put the companies on probation for five years, which will require them to implement environmental compliance plans.
Coughenour said he hoped the penalty will “resonate and cause other companies to pause when they think about creating a corporate culture that encourages deception.”
