Unions called on the Trump administration to strengthen its proposal to impose fees on Chinese-linked vessels by extending the charges to land borders.
They also reiterated a call to channel the revenue into a trust fund to support the US shipbuilding industry.
The comments came in the opening hour of a hearing by the Office of the US Trade Representative to consider a proposal to impose port fees of $1m to $1.5m
