The UK’s highest court has ruled that a Dutch shipowner was entitled to reject payment in euros from a charterer linked to sanctioned Russian oligarch Oleg Deripaska.
Dutch bulker specialist MUR Shipping triggered a force majeure clause in its contract with charterer RTI four days after the US imposed sanctions on the metals magnate, which made it impossible to make payments in dollars as agreed in the contract.
