Japan has snubbed the US in its efforts to deal with alleged Iranian attacks on shipping, choosing instead to align itself with France.
According to media reports. Japan will not join the US-led International Maritime Security Construct (IMSC), instead joining French efforts to woo Iran into scaling back its nuclear programme with an $18.4bn, oil-backed loan.
