The European Community Shipowners' Association (ECSA) says it wants to "encourage" the European Union (EU) and China to shape new rules on carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions from shipping.
This comes after the US bowed out of a global agreement to stem CO2 output.
In a joint release with the International Chamber of Shipping, the ECSA says the EU and China should "intensify cooperation" on how CO2 emissions will be regulated in the shipping industry.
