Iraq will be able to secure significant payouts in the event of a major oil spill in the Middle East Gulf in 2025 after becoming the 122nd country to sign up to an international compensation regime.
Although it only has a short coastline, Iraq is vulnerable to oil spills from the passing tanker trade in the Gulf, the International Oil Pollution Compensation Funds said.
