Oceangoing ships in the Japan P&I Club insurance portfolio fell by 3% at this year’s February renewal, officials said on Tuesday.

The number of ships on the protection and indemnity club’s books fell to 1,857 at renewal in 2025 compared with 1,929 the previous year, representing a 2.7m tonne decline to 82.9m tonnes. The number of coastal vessels on its books held steady.
