The insurance settlement for the fatal ferry fire off Greece is unlikely to be decided soon — judging by the ongoing row between Italian operator Grimaldi Lines and truckers over who is at fault.
The financial liability and compensation for seagoing passenger ship accidents, such as the disaster involving the 33,588-gt Euroferry Olympia (built 1995), is outlined in the International Maritime Organization’s Athens Convention, which was last updated in 2014.
