Tanker rates have hit summer doldrums with earnings across a variety of dirty tankers at two-year lows. Owners have generally ascribed the weakness to regular seasonal slowing, but market fundamentals are also playing a major role.
Claims that “current conditions are all due to seasonality are misplaced,” says the monthly tanker report from research firm Maritime Strategies International released this week.
